Who Is God? Acquire A New Understanding Of God.

The question of who God is has been a central theme in religious and philosophical discussions for centuries. Below are 22 Descriptions and 39 Bible Verses that shed light on the question, “Who is God?”

ONE: GOD IS THREE PERSONS (THE TRINITY)

There is one God who eternally exists as three distinct persons. God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ) and God the Holy Spirit. Each person is fully God but there is only one God.

Philippians 1:2 (NKJV) says “Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Titus 2:13 (NKJV) says “looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,“

Acts 5:3-4 (NKJV) says “But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself? While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.”

Matthew 28:19 (NKJV) says “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,”

TWO: GOD IS THE CREATOR

Genesis 1:1 (NKJV) says “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

John 1:1-3 (NKJV) says  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.“

THREE: GOD IS THE WAY

John 14:6 (NKJV) says “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

Note: As the way, Jesus is our path to the Father. As the truth, He is the reality of all God’s promises. As the life, He joins His divine life to ours, both now and eternally.

FOUR: GOD IS ETERNAL

Isaiah 40:8 (NKJV) says “The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.”

Isaiah 46:4 (NKJV) says “Even to your old age, I am He, And even to gray hairs I will carry you! I have made, and I will bear; Even I will carry, and will deliver you.”

Note: These verses emphasize God’s eternal nature and the enduring power of His Word.

FIVE: GOD IS THE SUSTAINER

Isaiah 40:28-29 (NKJV) says “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength.”

Note: Even the strongest people get tired at times, but God’s power and strength never weaken. He is never too tired or too busy to help and listen. His strength is our source of strength. When you feel all of life crushing you and cannot take another step, remember that you can call on God to renew your strength.

SIX: GOD IS HOLY

Revelation 4:8 (NKJV) says “The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying: “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!”

SEVEN: GOD IS JUST

Psalm 11:7 (NKJV) says “For the Lord is righteous, He loves righteousness; His countenance beholds the upright.”

EIGHT: GOD IS MERCIFUL

Psalm 103:8 (NKJV) says “The Lord is merciful and gracious, Slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.”

NINE: GOD IS SOVEREIGN

Psalm 93:1 (NKJV) says The Lord reigns, He is clothed with majesty; The Lord is clothed, He has girded Himself with strength. Surely the world is established, so that it cannot be moved.”

TEN: GOD IS OMNIPOTENT

Luke 1:37 (NKJV) says “For with God nothing will be impossible.”

Psalm 94:11 (NKJV) says “The Lord knows the thoughts of man, That they are futile.”

TWELVE: GOD IS OMNIPRESENT

Note: This scripture highlights God’s presence and His ability to be everywhere at once.

THIRTEEN: GOD IS LOVE

1 John 4:16 (NKJV) says “And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.”

Note: This simple yet profound scripture captures the essence of God’s character and His unconditional love for His creation.

FOURTEEN: GOD IS FAITHFUL

Lamentations 3:22-23 (NKJV) says “Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.”

Note: These verses emphasize God’s faithfulness and His unwavering commitment to His people. Trusting in God’s faithfulness day by day makes us confident in His great promises for the future.

FIFTEEN: GOD IS PATIENT AND LONG SUFFERING

Romans 9:22-24 (NKJV) says “What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much long suffering the vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, and that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had prepared beforehand for glory, even us whom He called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?”

2 Peter 3:8-9 (NKJV) says  “But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is long suffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”

Note: These scriptures highlight God’s patience and long suffering and His desire for all people to come to repentance. God is not slow, He is just not on our timetable. We should be ready to meet Jesus Christ any time, even today, but plan our course of service as though He may not return for many years.

SIXTEEN: GOD IS TRUTH

1 John 5:6 (NKJV) says “This is He who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not only by water, but by water and blood.  And it is the Spirit who bears witness, because the Spirit is truth.”

SEVENTEEN: GOD IS LIGHT

1 John 1:5 (NKJV) says  “This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.”

Psalm 27:1 (NKJV) says “The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?”

Note: Light represents what is good, pure, true, holy, and reliable. God is perfectly holy and true and He alone can guide us out of the darkness of sin.

EIGHTEEN: GOD IS OUR FATHER

Matthew 6:9-10 (NKJV) says “Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.”

Note: These scriptures highlight God’s role as our heavenly Father and His desire for a personal relationship with His children.

NINETEEN: GOD IS THE JUDGE

Psalm 96:12-13 (NKJV) says “Let the field be joyful, and all that is in it. Then all the trees of the woods will rejoice before the Lord. For He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth. He shall judge the world with righteousness, And the peoples with His truth.”

Note: When you recognize the good shepherd, follow Him.

TWENTY ONE: GOD IS THE ROCK

Psalm 18:2 (NKJV) says The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”

TWENTY TWO: GOD IS THE SUPREME BEING

Psalm 83:18 (NKJV) says “That they may know that You, whose name alone is the Lord, Are the Most High over all the earth.”

Note: Don’t wait until judgment comes on you to accept Jesus Christ as your personal savior and make Him Lord of your life. Do it now before it’s too late!
